A Little About the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, commonly known as Coachella is a three-day annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California. The event features many genres of music including alternative rock, hip hop, and electronica as well as large sculptural art.

Animal Collective

Redd Kross
A rock band from Hawthorne, California, in 2006 they returned to the stage after a decade and have played shows at the Azkena Festival in Spain and the Detour Festival in Los Angeles. In fall 2007 they recorded their latest album.

Architecture in Helsinki
Hailing from Melbourne, this eight-piece indie pop ensemble features a musical arsenal that is even bigger than its roster. The group's third effort, Places Like This, drew glowing reviews.

Les Savy Fav
A New York City band that plays an idiosyncratic style of indie rock, they say their style is influenced by Art rock. The group formed in 1995 under the label Frenchkiss. Earlier this year the band performed live on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Duffy
Aimee Anne Duffy, known professionally as Duffy, is a Welsh singer-songwriter of soul music. Rockferry is scheduled for release in the United States on May 13th, with “Warwick Avenue” as the first single.

Slightly Stoopid
A band based in California that play "a fusion of acoustic rock and blues with reggae, hip-hop, and punk". Their fifth studio album, entitled Chronchitis, was released in 2007. They were originally signed by Bradley Nowell to Skunk Records.

Rogue Wave
An indie rock band from Oakland, California and headed by Zach Schwartz, who made the band after losing his job in the dot-com bust. Their newest album, Asleep at Heaven's Gate was released on September 18, 2007.

John Butler Trio
An eclectic jam band from Australia led by frontman John Butler, two of the band's albums, Three and Living 2001-2002, have gone platinum in Australia. Their latest release, Grand National, was released on March 27, 2007.

Tegan & Sara
A Canadian folk-rock duo, they first burst onto the music scene in 1998 when they earned the highest score in the history of Calgary's "Garage Warz" competition. In 2007 they explored pop, punk, and indie rock, and released The Con.

The Raconteurs
A self-described “new band made up of old friends,” the Raconteurs feature the White Stripes’ Jack White as well as Brendan Benson, Patrick Keeler and Jack Lawrence. They’ve already had hits with “Steady as She Goes” and “Level”.

Serj Tankian
Serj Tankian is a Lebanese-born Armenian-American singer, songwriter, poet, activist, and multi-instrumentalist. He has released five albums with System of a Down and in 2007 released Elect the Dead.

The Bird and the Bee
An indie/pop/alternative musical duo from Los Angeles, their debut EP was released on October 2006. Since then they’ve released the full length The Bird and the Bee as well as two additional EP’s.

Man Man
Hailing from Philadelphia, their musical style has been described as Viking-vaudeville, Manic Gypsy Jazz. Man Man is known for their exuberant live performances, where the band members dress in white outfits and wear war paint.

Hailing from Los Gatos, CA, they were sharpening their aggro-metal sound in the early '90s before they'd even graduated from high school. They are recording their fourth album in the upcoming weeks.

VHS or Beta
A band from Louisville, Kentucky, that combines elements of rock, French house and dance-punk. In early 2007, after two and half years of touring, the band released 2007's Bring on the Comets.

A four piece multi-instrumental and vocal ensemble that fuses Romani, Greek, Slavic, Bolero, and Mariachi music with American punk and folk roots.

A British electropop band, they have released three studio albums. The Warning was named Album of the Year by Mixmag and their third studio album, Made in the Dark, was released in February 2008.

Portishead
An English trip-hop group from Bristol whose first album, Dummy, was released in 1994. On January 21, 2008, a European tour to support their new album Third was announced as well as a headlining spot at this year’s Coachella Festival.

Flogging Molly
A Celtic punk band that formed in L.A., at a bar called Molly Malone's. Their sound is traditional Celtic instruments like violin, mandolin and accordion blended seamlessly with grinding guitars and pounding drums.

Yelle
A French singer from Bretagne, she rose to fame when she posted a song titled "Short Dick Cuizi" dissing Cuizinier, a member of the Parisian hip-hop group TTC. She has recorded a debut album Pop-Up, after her hit single "Je Veux Te Voir".

Brett Dennen
A young folk/pop singer-songwriter from Oakdale, California. In 2004 he released his first album which was self-titled. He has toured extensively across the U.S. and in November, 2007, he was named one of Rolling Stone Magazine's "10 Artists to Watch.

Electric Touch
An Austin-based four-piece that came together last year is a mix of British Invasion melodic pop and surging, progressive rock ’n’ roll. Having already toured extensively, the band’s debut is due later this year on Justice Records.

An indie rock band from Sweden, the band has toured throughout the world to support their debut album, Howl Howl Gaff Gaff. Their second album, Our Ill Wills, debuted in North America on September 11, 2007.

Manchester Orchestra
Led by singer/songwriter/guitarist Andy Hull, this Atlanta indie rock outfit grew out of songs that Hull had begun writing while a junior in high school. They snagged an opening spot on Brand New's spring 2007 tour.

An indie pop band who has been nominated for a Juno Award in their native Canada, their music has been described as beautiful, eloquent indie pop. Their latest studio album, In Our Bedroom after the War, was released in 2007.

Spiritualized
An English rock band formed in 1990 in Rugby, Warwickshire. Jason Pierce, founder of the band, writes, composes and sings all of the band's material. Their next album will be released on May 19, 2008 in the UK and on June 3, 2008 in the US.

Gogol Bordello
A Gypsy music inspired punk band from New York City that is known for its theatrical stage shows. There first single was released in 1999 and since they have released four full-length albums and one EP. In 2005 the band signed to punk label SideOneDummy Records.

A Canadian New Wave/indie rock band, they originally formed in 1998 in New York City, but are currently based in Toronto. Their newest album, Grow Up and Blow Away, was released in 2007 under record label Last Gang Records.
